PRODUCER + DIRECTOR

Building working relationships with a range of emerging and diverse filmmakers in Naarm (Melbourne) led to Barış founding Near Dark, an independent production company and creative collective. Though the organisation is no longer a formal collective, an approach to filmmaking lead by sincere and prolonged collaboration among like-minded individuals prevails.

Having established an independent slate of projects that speak to the lived experiences of the immigrant-Australian identity, Near Dark continues to develop work which exist in pockets of space carved out for honesty, healing, and reflection. An inter-sectionalist approach to storytelling and collaboration allows authentic and resonant creative to present itself.

With experience on STAN, ABC, SBS, and DISNEY+ commissioned work; Barış is currently working with various community arts and media organisations, facilitating and developing program and fundraising strategies at the cross-section of industry and community. Seeking to develop and exploit alternative pathways into the media industry for screen practitioners from historically underrepresented backgrounds.

While practising his own craft as a producer, director and editor. He strives to develop and produce narrative and factual work to capture the ever-changing face of the Australian identity through creative and compelling character driven storytelling.
